From Tashkent With Love is a tale of courage, heartbreak and glory spanning four decades. It tells the remarkable story of Cardiff City’s football adventures across Europe in the Cup Winners’ Cup.

From their unassuming debut in the Danish fishing port of Esbjerg to the ugly battle against FC Porto, from the heartbreaking defeat against Hamburg to the glorious first-leg triumph over mighty Real Madrid, the Bluebirds’ 24 ties in European competition are recalled by more than 70 former Cardiff players.

The Welsh club’s 29-year Cup Winners’ Cup odyssey saw Cardiff face some of the biggest names in European football including Sporting Lisbon, Real Zaragoza, Standard Liège and Ferencváros, with their finest hour arriving in 1968, an epic and pulsating quarter-final tie against the crack Soviet Union side, Torpedo Moscow.

With the game switched from icy Moscow to Tashkent, in what is now Uzbekistan, the Bluebirds made a remarkable 7,000-mile round trip which took the Welsh Cup holders deep into the heart of Soviet Asia, close to the borders of China and Afghanistan.
